Seed Production Specialist Allium and Open field Productions

(fulltime)

Location: Made, the Netherlands
Scope: FTE
Department: Operations/Production
Reports to: Seed Production Manager


This position will give you the chance to work independently, to work both at the office and in the fields and to handle a broad variety of tasks and responsibilities. We will enable you to learn about our products and stay up to date with the latest developments in your field of work.

 
Job requirements

Role & responsibilities:

  • As Production Specialist Allium you independently coordinate and guide all activities related to bulb productions for new varieties, stock seeds and commercial contracts of the crop Allium and ensure the most reliable production of bulbs, taking in account an optimum price/quality ratio.
  • To plan the yearly production of bulbs,  according to sales forecast and with regards to existing inventory of stock seeds and to prepare and formulate the contracts with the growers based on the crop planning, and handle the related administration.
  • To record the features and traits of the different parental lines that are essential for control/inspections during bulb production. To report (to breeding, the stock seed specialist or crop manager) and, if needed, act upon any unexpected phenomenon.
  • To guide and advice the growers, producers and production companies throughout the crop cycle and plan with them the sowing, harvesting and supply of the various bulb crops.
  • To conduct analyses regarding the realized bulb crops, quality of elite seeds and stock seeds and other as needed and to guide and share feedback and advice internally.
  • To work and coordinate with services providers for collect, sort, grade and store the bulbs and to work with other production specialist.
  • Additional task in other crops could be allocated under the scope of this position.
  • Check and approve administrative task related with the production.
  • As member of production team you will participate in team tasks and objectives related to different crops E.g. trials.
  • The position includes intense traveling within the Netherlands due the production locations.
  • Flexible working hours are expected during peak seasons like, sowing, harvesting, grading. 

 

Candidate profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, or a vocational (MBO) degree in agriculture combined with relevant experience:
  • Knowledge of breeding methods and techniques;
  • Fluency in English, both orally and in writing; Dutch language will be an advantage (B1 level desirable)
  • Very good analytical skills and very well organized;
  • Taking initiative, able to work systematically and independently;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills;
  • Maturity, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
